What do Resident Assistants do?

Resident Assistants are (generally) continuing students that reside in accommodation to provide support and guidance to other residents. They do this by building community, planning events, responding to enquiries and undertaking tasks that contribute to the smooth running of their accommodation site.

We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals who want to help others and give back to the university community while developing skills and having fun. You can learn more about the responsibilities of the role and the attributes we are seeking by reading the role description.

• Flexible working - While there are some key dates in which you are required to work (i.e. arrival periods), the flexible nature of the role allows RAs to fit the role around their own student experience.
• Regular Training and Support – RAs receive monthly training and support from Residence Life staff.
• Make a Mark – As an RA you have the opportunity to make a difference to residents within your community by supporting them settling into their student home, encourage them to develop connections and help them navigate their own student experience.
• Skills Development – The RA role allows you to prepare for your own future but participating in activities that allow for your own skill development.  RAs also have the opportunity to participate in certificates, such as the Edinburgh Award and Sustainability Award, to help evidence your achievements in the role.
