Resident Assistants (RA)

What is an RA and how they help build community in your accommodation.

We seek to understand student needs, offer events that are helping everyone feel comfortable in their new home and create lots of opportunities to get to know you well. Our first line of interacting and supporting our residents are our Resident Assistants, or RAs as we call them in Edinburgh.

RAs train over the summer, before everyone arrives, to make sure they welcome our residents at the start of the academic year. They will welcome you and show you around the accommodation, create helpful materials for you, help you settle in and reach out to introduce you to others and learn from you.

We like to say that the RAs are the big brother or sister you wish you had in Edinburgh. RAs:

  • Give you important information.
  • Help with communal issues.
  • Are knowledgeable of support resources across the Uni.
  • Work with you to build the house community.
  • Organise events.
  • Promote diversity and acceptance.
  • Provide a listening ear when things are going great or when life is challenging.
